Sara Vance-Hogan was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1984 to an Air Force family. She spent most of her childhood in Arizona, Illinois, and Texas until her father retired and the family permanently moved to Oklahoma where she now lives with her husband and cat, Isabella "Fluffykins"; aka "BellaCat Lestrange."
Her first novel, "Dead Seed" is a vampire horror story that originally started as a just-for-fun short story on the website Quizilla. There, "Dead Seed" was known as the popular (and controversial) "Vampires Don't Exist." It dominated the Highest Rated list for about a month until the chapters came to an end. She received so much fan mail and demands to turn the story into a full-length book that she couldn't resist and gave in to the requests of her readers.
Her second published story is a fantasy series called "Dies Irae."
Unlike "Dead Seed," this story is appropriate for a younger audience and caters to the imaginations of ages 15 and up. Like a lot of other fantasy stories, "Dies Irae" has dragons. But unlike most fantasy stories, Sara Vance-Hogan's dragons live as humans who socially (and sometimes romantically) interact with them. Want a unique fantasy story that leaves you guessing until the end? Give "Dies Irae" a try; it's quickly becoming a favorite among its readers.
In November 2009, Sara released her second vampire book called "Dementia."
Though she hasn't received as much feedback on it as she has her other books, the feedback she has received has all been positive so far. Her fans love that she has tied in events from "Dead Seed" into this book, but has kept the story original. It is not a sequel to "Dead Seed."
Sara Vance-Hogan also has a book published that is different from her former projects. It's a humorous guide called "Bad Customers: A Guide to Customer Etiquette." After working in retail at a dollar store for a combined total of almost 3 years where she encountered some very rude (and just plain weird) people, Sara decided to write a book about them. The book gives examples of rude customers and lets people know what they should and should not do in order to be a good customer. This book can be found at Lulu.com if you prefer a hard copy.
Sara's work can also be found in "Twisted Dreams" and "Worlds Within...Worlds Beyond" magazines (owned and edited by Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc), Alan Draven's "Sinister Landscapes," and the "2008 Ladies of Horror" (edited by Jennifer Miller).
Newest Publication: Table Rock's Vampire.
Fun Facts
-- Sara has a scar over her right eye that appears she has a small chunk of her eyebrow missing. This happened when she was about 4 years old while playing with her puppy, Whiskers. The puppy accidentally nipped her eyebrow, leaving her with a scar that makes it seem she always has a bad eyebrow job. But she wouldn't "fix" it for anything in the world and calls it her souvenir from him. Whiskers passed away in 2001 from congestive heart failure. He is still deeply loved and missed.
-- Sara is terrified of sharks and will not go further than waist-deep in the ocean. She also has an irrational fear of bears.
-- Sara is a pansy because she also can't watch scenes in movies that show a needle going into the skin of any body part, or a scalple cutting into the skin.
